Novel Idea for Writing

Yes, I have been writing this week on my project.  I also have acquired a temporary position that will carry me through until the end of October.  I think that in it self, has helped me find my muse this week.

I belong to several writers’ groups in my area.  One has been around for at least twelve years.  It’s composed of a diverse group of writers.  Some write short fiction, some long, some write poetry, screenplays, and we even have a few who write lyrics. While this group is experiencing a few growing pains – (we decided we needed to change to make it fit more members’ needs.)  One of the suggestions was to have a group writing prompt to use, however we wanted to, before the next meeting.

That suggestion helped me out.  I took the prompt, which was – “What if he says no?”  and wrote a scene for my current wip.  Most of the other members used it in their poetry.  Their use was obvious.  My line was a little trickier to find.  It was in the middle of the scene but because everyone was looking for it, most members did find it and thought I had been very creative. I am going to take it a step further.  Each week, I will try to use my prompt  for a new scene.  I thought it might be clever to try writing a whole novel that way and then who knows maybe write something about having used this method for a whole book.  The worse that could happen is that it won’t work. The best is that it might make the whole process easier.  Who knows?  We’ll see how it goes.

Since I want to keep you informed as to my progress but I don’t want to share each scene as I write it and I also don’t like the idea of word counts for the first draft because we all know the story will change in re-writes, I will share what I am doing to keep going forward.  As I get further along, I will give you an estimate as to how far into the book I am.  For now, I am still in Act one of three.

How is your project going?  Do you have some tricks you use to keep going forward?

While you’re checking out this post, check out my blog roll.  There are some great links for writers you may not have noticed. A new one I added today is 911 Writers Block.  I think its kind of fun.

Well now, I have to go find something new to wear for my new job next week.  Shopping is always good.

In the meantime, keep writing.

Love the 911 Writers Block link. Now that is a creative and useful site!

My fiction writing isn’t progressing as well as I would like currently. I think this story is going to end up a NaNo project. I don’t see myself getting a lot done on it before then. But that’s okay. The excitement of NaNo will be good for me and it.
